Onion Syrup- Cold/Flu Remedy

Onion syrup can be used to fight off colds and flu’s. It’s an ideal cold/flu remedy, make it and use it when you feel the first sign of a cold or flu coming on. It will keep for up to 1 week in a cool place or in the fridge.
You can use any type of onion to make this syrup, although red onions have an extra-mild demulcency which is good for children.

Ingredient:
1 large or 2 small onions
1lb of brown granulated sugar or local honey

Method:
Peel and slice onion

Put 2 inches of onion in the bottom of a jar and cover with 2 inches of brown sugar (or honey)
Fill the jar with alternative layers of onion and sugar (or honey), pressing each layer down firmly before adding the next.

Cover the last layer of onion with a thick layer of sugar (or honey) and leave over night.
By morning most of the onion will have liquefied into a syrup by dissolving into onion juice and mixing with the sugar/honey to leave your syrup.

Strain off the syrup and through away any undissolved sugar and onion bits.

Pour into bottle/jar and date and label it.

Store in cool/dark place for 1 week.

Dosage:

Adult: 2 teaspoons 3 times daily or every 2 hours to help fight off cold/flu

Child: ½ to 1 teaspoon 3 to 6 times daily.
